On 20 February, the Mayor of Tomar Hugo Cristovão, and the Pro-Rector of the Polytechnic University of Tomar Célio Gonçalo Marques, were received at the Svishtov City Hall by the Mayor of Svishtov Gencho Bozhinov Genchev, and the President of the Svishtov City Council Kristiyan Kirilov, for the solemn signing of the twinning protocol between the cities of Tomar and Svishtov, Bulgaria.

The ceremony was also attended by the Rector of the D.A. Tsenov Academy of Economics Marin Marinov, the Vice-Rector Zdravko Lyubenov, the Director of the International Affairs Office Marusya Smokova, and the Professor of Valahia University of Târgovişte Silviu Miloiu.

During the ceremony, the similarities between the two cities were highlighted. The agreement strengthens the cultural, historical and economic ties between the two municipalities, as well as the friendship between Portugal and Bulgaria.

After the formal signing of the protocol, the delegation visited the city's cultural sites and places of strategic, social and economic importance for the city of Svishtov.
